Micro-Implants for Orthodontics
MINI-IMPLANTS
The mini-implants are used in Orthodontics to help us with the anchorage problems; anchorage is a very important term in Orthodontics, because we usually use certain teeth in back of the mouth to move the anterior teeth.
The mini-implants have revolutionized Orthodontic treatments, because we use them as anchorage to move teeth without touching back teeth to move anterior teeth.
They are also known as micro screws or as temporary anchorage units, that after they have served their purpose can be easily removed.
These micro-implants are very easy to place, we do not even need needles to anesthetize the site of insertion, and we use only some topic get that is quite strong, no incision needs to be made, you just screw it into the bone through the gum, and it takes 3or 4 minutes to place one.
To remove them, you just unscrew it, it is also very easy. You need first to put some anesthetic gel on the site and with a small screw driver, you unscrew it.
These mechanisms of temporary anchorage can reduce the time of treatment, getting much better results avoiding some times the need of surgery to solve some cases.
